Several Reasons Why Orthodontic Casts Are Imperative If You’re Keen On High Impact Sports

by Jenny Tai

In the past, athletes, sports professionals as well as those recuperating from ankle injuries tape their ankles up. This a time consuming process and requires the expertise of a medical professional. These days there are orthodontic braces available that not only provide superior support for your ankle, it is also a lot easier to put on.

There are many different brands and manufacturers for sports and rehabilitation braces out in the market. Regardless of the type of injury you have, there should be a foot or ankle brace that will help speed up your recovery time as well as prevent further injuries from occurring should you decide to go back into your sport.

These ankle braces are not the same as those you might see people wear when they are recuperating from a broken ankle (the big and bulky ankle casts are such an example). A sports ankle brace is basically designed to be worn over your foot and within your shoe and a good quality one will not only feel comfortable but give you added support and strength to your mid and lower foot, as well as your heel.

Whether you have weak ankles or rolled your ankle pretty badly in the past, it is highly recommended that you wear an ankle cast if you intend to get back into your favorite sport. It’s quite affordable these days anyway and you can pick one up cheaply online (expect to fork out around $200 for a pair of maximum protection ASO ankle braces sports braces).

So which kind of support braces should you be getting? Are there certain things you should look out for? Well let’s take a look.

The right ankle cast will depend on what sort of injuries you’ve had in the past, and it might be a good idea to check with your orthodontist first as he or she will probably recommend the best protective solution for you. Remember that there different braces for different purposes, so there’s no point in you getting one that does not fit your needs.

The only way to really select the right model is to go down to the shop and actually test each one out. You might be required to bring along a new pair of socks to put on before trying out the brace due to hygiene reasons.

You might find that initially, the ankle brace is very restrictive and that it’s hard to move, this is because you’re simply not used to wearing something like that. Over a short period of time, the elastic material will loosen up and you will forget that you’re even wearing an ankle cast.

Rafael Nadal Biography - Set Worlds “Youngest” Tennis Records

Monday, December 21st, 2009
by Gery Boton

Rafa is the nick name of Rafael Nadal Parera, a young man who has the world of tennis wowed by his fast rise to success. After entering the professional tennis arena at the tender age of just 15 years he has enjoyed a magnificent run of wins. This short Rafael Nadal biography is a brief look at what he has achieved in the few years he has played this widely loved spectator sport.

Reaching the pinnacle of his success as the number two tennis player in the world seems to have come very easily to Rafael Nadal. His clay-court performance has seen sixty consecutive wins, which is a magnificent achievement.

Born on 3 June 1986 in Manacor, Majorca, Spain, he has a sporting background. His uncle Miguel Angel Nadal played professional football when he was only 15 years of age and played for F. C. Barcelona between 1986 and 2001.

Our Rafael Nadal biography tells us he was only 15 when he won his first professional tennis match the ATP in Mallorca. In this tennis match he defeated Ramon Delgado and became the ninth player to be younger than 16, to win and ATP tennis championship. One year later he became ranked as one of the top 100 singles tennis players world-wide and was the 2nd youngest player to achieve this claim to fame.

He debuted at Wimbledon aged 16 and made his way into the 3rd round. Since Boris Becker also did this, Rafa was the youngest player to reach the 3rd round at Wimbledon. By the year 2005, Rafael Nadal was ranked the world’s 5th best singles tennis player and this also made him a “youngest” record.

Rafa won a Grand Slam on his first appearance and is only the seventh player to ever achieve this. He also won the US open as a teenager, the first player to do this since Pete Sampras in 1990. Pet Sampras was 19 years of age at the time. He is quite literally a tennis hero, and as the winner of four French Opens consecutively, deserves this accolade, so much so that this Rafael Nadal biography is important for one so young.

Determining The Ping-Pong Table For You

Sunday, December 20th, 2009
by Andy Zain

There are lots of ping-pong tables on the market. Many to choose from, depending on your skill level, budget, and dedication to the sport.

For starters, the reasons for buying a ping-pong table for a family of young kids will be different than buying for if you’re a serious player.

Aside from your approach to playing, other factors exist, too. These include the thickness of the tabletop, the table’s sturdiness, and tabletop surface. You’ll also want to consider its storability, too.

It is not necessary to spend a lot of money on a ping-pong table. This is especially true when the majority of its use will be by a family with young children. Buying a less expensive table is ideal. While learning how to play, there will be less concern when the table is beat up or misused.

However, if you or someone else develops a more serious approach to the game, then perhaps a more expensive model that will be treated and maintained properly is the way to go.

If your house or apartment doesn’t have much room, then you might want to buy a fold-up table. One with rollers that can be folded easily by one person and rolled into the closet or corner for storage.

If you have more room, then buying a table that can just be left down all the time is a viable alternative, too. However, any table with rollers is not a bad idea, for the sake of convenience.

The next consideration is the thickness of the tabletop. Serious players argue that a thickness of 1 inch is the only way to go. For the less serious ping-pong player, a tabletop with a thickness of three-fourths of an inch is quite satisfactory.

Yes, the 1-inch thick table will give the ball a more consistent bounce. But the price difference - usually hundreds of dollars’ worth - is too much to make this consistency unimportant to the player just out for fun.

You should always buy a sturdy table, though, regardless of how much you spend or how thick the tabletop is. This is especially true if buying with kids in mind. The more durable the table, the less you’ll be concerned when kids treat it roughly.

Overall, though, what matters most is your happiness with the purchase. To ensure this, make sure you buy a table that has a smooth finish, with no rough spots or edges. Be sure that the ball bounces consistently, too, when dropped from about 12 inches up. It should be 10 inches or so regardless of where on the table it bounces.

The 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics Are Coming!

by John A Moore

The clock is clicking down to the opening ceremonies of the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games. Canada has been buzzing about these games for the past few years and now Vancouver is the final rush to make sure everything is ready as they prepare to welcome the world. Vancouver was awarded these games over 5 years ago and has been making preparations ever since. This will be the second time Canada has played host to this spectacular event.

Held every fourth year, the Winter Games are an international spectacular. This season the Games will commence in the middle of February and stretch over 16 excitement filled days. One day one will be a moving and somber opening ceremony and on day 16 will be a fun and glitzy closing ceremony. The days in between will be filled with such events as alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, figure skating, bobsled, ice hockey, ski jumping, freestyle skiing, and speed skating..

The Vancouver Olympic Games will be held in the City of Vancouver as well as a number of different places around Vancouver. Vancouver is located on the Pacific Ocean in the lower mainland portion of the province of British Columbia. The other British Columbia towns and villages that will assist in hosting the Winter Games are Richmond, Whistler, and West Vancouver.

Historically, the Winter Olympics and the Summer Olympics were held in the same year. This was the case from the first Winter Games held in France in 1924. Prior to 1924, figure skating and hockey were part of the Summer Games. The same year pairing of the Olympics continued until 1992. Since 1992, the Winter and Summer Olympics have been held in alternate even numbered years.

The Winter Olympics are considerably smaller than the Summer Olympics. There are much fewer events in the Winter Games and there is a full week less of competition. There are also fewer countries participating. Fewer countries participating make sense as all of the completions take place on either ice or snow and there are many countries that naturally have neither of these surfaces. With that said there are a number of typically tropical countries that do participate. The most famous of these tropical competitors is the Jamaican bobsled team.

In a few short weeks the planet will turn its attention to Canada. It is hoped that the world will be awed with the natural beauty of Canada and the excitement of the competition. Region differences will be forgotten as young men and women give it all to bring home the gold medal. It will surely be spectacular at the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games.

Designing A Comfortable Mascot Costume to Wear During the Games

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009
by Adriana Noton

When hearing the word “Mascot”, the majority of people think about sports and a silly giant chicken walking around. The person donning the Mascot Costume is seen during the game, but most of us don’t think about what is involved in the design a comfortable mascot costume.

Mascots are so commonplace that they have their own fan base. These fans cheer them on when they enter the stage or field. Even the teams are associated with the mascot.

Most mascots are there for entertainment. They may come out before the game, during a break or to entertain the crowd. There are those who go to the events just for the mascot. If the game isn’t going to good for the team, mascots are able to rally the fans and create a fun atmosphere. Their behavior is so outrageous sometimes that the fans remember them more than they do plays of the game.

Mascot costumes are heavy and not well ventilated. While the person inside seems to move around easily, when the costume is made, the person who is going to wear it has to be taken into consideration.

Teams with larger budgets often spend more money on the costumes to have them made out of a light weight material so the person inside can breathe easier. The construction of the costume will also affect how easily the person is able to move around and how long it can be worn. The person who becomes a mascot must possess strength, and agility to be able to perform the job.

When designing a mascot costume, the climate conditions should be considered. The costume should allow for the adding or removing of material according to the weather to keep the mascot warm or cool.

Fiberglass is often used to build the head because it is light weight. Also take into account the persons need to be able to see.

The body can be made out of a variety of materials; like cotton, polyester or denim. Battery operated fans can be added to the construction of the suit to cool the person inside.

Make sure to reach an agreement for the construction of the costume that includes the material and the design. Make sure that it is guaranteed to be an original. You want your team or school’s mascot costume to be unique. Be sure to include that the team or school will own all the rights to the design. The colors should coincide with the team or school colors to make the mascot more identifiable.

The supplies that you are going to need, if you are building the costume yourself are the same that you are going to use for any sewing project. Take into consideration that the costume has to be large enough to let air flow around the person wearing it; use polyester fill to give the costume a larger than life appearance; to make it easier to get in and out of the costume, use Velcro. The head of the costume can be made from fiberglass and cardboard for the head.

Hydration is important to those who are mascots. Several people may be needed according to the size of the event. All mascots need a guide to help them. A break should be taken every 40 minutes as well.
