Tennis Ball Machine: An Overview

Sunday, May 31st, 2009
by T Martin

A tennis ball machine is a wonderful way to advance and improve your tennis game. Not only will you better your strokes, but you can get a wonderful work out too! Tennis has been a part of my life for years and I have ball machines an un-placeable part of my game.

A tennis ball machine is designed to aid in a players development. They are a terrific automatic training aid that can feed tennis balls with precision to wherever you tell it to on the court. They have the ability to control the speed, spin and height of the feed. In most cases the ball machine will oscillate, or move back and forth forcing the player to move and hit the ball.

Regardless of your level of play, you will benefit from the use of a ball machine. They are not meant as a substitute for a coach or an instructor, but they are a great supplement to help create a consistent, dependable, well struck stroke. Repetition is the key to your success, you need to hit a lot of balls.

Your tennis coach may use a ball machine to enhance your lesson, as it will allow them to concentrate on you and not the feeds. With a ball machines ability to feed a great variety of balls, you are not limited to working on just one stroke. In fact, a ball machine can help develop just about any stroke with the exception of the serve.

Generally, tennis ball machines are put together well and typically come with a warranty and service. Ball machines will vary in price from a few hundred dollars to upwards of several thousand dollars. The price will really come down to the different features and options you select.

So, it is important that when you go to buy a machine you ask yourself some basic questions. If you are a beginner your requirements now, will be very different than in the future, so keep that in mind. Other things to think about are, do you need a transportable machine, a battery operated machine or a pneumatic (electric) machine, and of course how much does it cost?

Furthermore, the ball machines will come with a variety of options and you want some of those. I encourage you to get one that can vary the speed of the ball feed as well as oscillate. A ball machine that oscillate will really help you work on your foot work. Another great feature is one that can vary the depth of the ball it feeds and apply different spins. This is a great feature, because as your game develops you will be met with players that have all of these abilities.

There are very basic machines out there, that are inexpensive, but they are extremely limited on what they offer. You are likely to outgrow them rapidly. There are tons of machines on the market, many of which offer you the features we talked about. Now your job is to go find the perfect tennis ball machine!

Learning To Play Tennis - The Basics

Grip, Footwork, and Strokes and Tennis Lessons Online Made Easy.

Great footwork is in reality about weight control, something you learn quickly in tennis for beginners training. It is getting the most effective body posture for each shot, and from there pretty much all shots will grow. In explaining the various kinds of shots and footwork I am talking about are as a right-hand player. The left-hander aught basically reverse the feet.

Racquet grip is an imperative aspect of your stroke, because a mediocre hold will mess up the finest serve. A natural grip for a top forehand shot is essentially unsound for the backhand.

To acquire the forehand grip, hold the tennis racquet with the side of the frame toward the court and the face perpendicular, the handle toward the body, and “shake hands” the racquet, just as if you were greeting your friend. the grip settled easily and naturally into the hand, the general line of the hand, racquet and arm are one. The swing brings the racquet in a general line with the arm, and the full tennis racquet is basically an extension of the arm.

The backhand grip is a quarter circle roll of hand on the grip, bringing the hand above the grip and the knuckles straight up. the stroke moves through the wrist.

This is the recommended arrangement for your grip. I do not recommend copying this hold precisely, but model your natural style grip as closely as possible on these lines while not losing your own comfort or distinctiveness.

Having once picked up the racquet in the hand, the following challenge is the position of your body and also the sequence of mastering hits.

All tennis strokes, need be achieved with the body at right angles to the net, with the shoulders parallel to the line of path of the ball. the body weight should at all times travel forward. it need pass from the rear foot all the way to the front foot the exact moment of hitting the ball. On no account permit the weight to be heading away from the shot. It is weight that regulates the “pace/pace” of a stroke swing that, regulates your “speed/momentum.”

Allow me explain the import of “speed/tempo” and also the “pace/tempo.” “Speed” is the actual velocity with which a tennis ball travels through the air. “Pace” is the rapidity with which it springs from the deck. Pace is weight. It is the “sting” the tennis ball has as it springs upward from the court, giving the clueless as well as inexperienced athlete a shock of strength which the stroke or swing did not exhibited.

A great many athletes carry both “speed” as well as the “pace.” Different hits could hold both.

The general order of learning strokes should be:

1. The Drive. Fore and also the backhand. This is the bedrock of all tennis, since you cannot build a net charge excepting you hold the ground hit to create the technique. Nor can you match a net attack successfully unless you thoroughly can drive, as that is the only successful passing shot.

2. Service.

3. The Volley and also the Overhead Smash.

4. The Chop/Half Volley and various secondary and ornamental strokes.

Most people put in a table tennis table in their garage and play a friendly game every once in a while. They never really progress beyond a certain level. The better you get at ping pong, the more you will realize how complex it is and the more exercise you will get. If you watch any ping pong match on TV, you will see the players starting to sweat as the match goes on. Ping pong may not look or feel strenuous to the casual player but once you start playing and progressing to better levels you will find it is a great challenge and work out!

Ping-pong, on the surface, looks like a pretty simple game. After all, you have a table, a net, and a couple of paddles that all can fit nicely in your basement or many other rooms in your house. For the beginner, ping-pong is a simple game but for the player who takes the time to become advanced, it can be extremely intricate. The top players all practice many hours a day and treat it as a job in terms of the time they devote to it.

Ping pong paddles are the players weapon and you can spend hundreds of dollars on one at the higher levels. Tournament players have their paddles custom made with special rubbers and sizes that are all specific to the type of play of the player. Ping-pong is much more that just hitting a ball back and forth over a net and the variety of paddles leads to different levels of ability.

The top ping pong players all have different styles of play and they are able to disguise their shots by putting a variety of spins on the ball. If you want to be able to do this effectively, you need to have years of practice along with the right equipment which is one of those expensive paddles. Table tennis also requires you to have quick reflexes and good hand eye coordination. The Development of Archery in the Olympic Games

Saturday, May 9th, 2009
by Mae Summerville

During the early years of Olympics, there was no regularity in the game rules and archery was not included as an event any more after 1920. The applicable international rules of the Olympics was finally agreed upon after long many number of years and archery finally reappeared as a sport event during the 1972 Munich Olympics. Over and above individual events, team competitions were also held from 1988.

From 1992, the schedule of the event is head-to-head competition amongst the top 64 athletes. There are four archery events: Individual competitors (men and women) shoot 72 arrows at a ‘bulls-eye’ target from a distance of 70 meters (229 feet, 8 inches). One shot must follow the other in a matter of 40 seconds and the ideal score is 720 with a ’sudden death’ overtime shot which happens when there is a tie.

In the team events there are totally 16 teams where each team has 3 archers, who, like the individual game, have to throw 72 arrows from a distance of 70 meters. Each archer shoots an arrow and the arrow which gets closest to the target, wins the game. The scoring in this game is according to where the arrow hits the target, which consists of 10 rings so if the arrow hits the outermost ring, the archer gets 1 point, 2 points for the next ring and finally 10 if the center of the target is hit.

The recurve bow which is used during archery events help at Olympics makes the arrow travel at a speed of 150 mph. The bows are very ‘high-tech’, manufactured from wood, fiberglass and graphite with stabilizers which help keep the arrow flights straight and sights to help in aiming. Hydrocarbon product is the material used to make the strings or they are from Kelvar and the arrows are made with aluminum or carbon graphite with the total cost of the equipment going up to 00.

Athletes who participate in Olympics archery events would have gone through training for about 10 years. To compete in these games, the player has to be in top form. Then one has to have a good coach and the correct equipment. As luck would have it, archery is less costly than any other sports. To master the art, you should get coaching, study and talk to other archers and then gradually develop expertise from local and national events but never forget to practice diligently.

This sport is open to even athletes suffering from some disabilities. A New Zealand woman, Neroli Fairhall, was the first paraplegic to compete in the Olympic Games and was a gold medalist in the Commonwealth Games. This game is such that you can enjoy it with all the members of your family and if you so desire, can go on playing it for the rest of your life.

Spring: A Season for Preparing

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009
by Andrea Cluff

If you are an outdoor enthusiast, spring is a great season to prepare for summer outings with the family. And, if you don’t want to break the bank on recreational activities, take the whole crew on a camping trip where they can enjoy each other and the beautiful attractions in the great outdoors for very little money.

As you pack the car with the things that you need for a few days or weeks in the wilderness, one of the most important pieces of equipment that you need is a sturdy, spacious, and weather resistant gear tent. After all, you never know what Mother Nature will throw your way in the form of weather and a tent can provide all the shelter you need from rain, cold, mosquitoes, and other small pests.

There are a couple things you need to think about if you are getting ready to purchase a gear tent though. One is its size. After all, a one man tube tent isn’t going to be very comfortable for a family of four or five. And, in addition to providing enough space for your family, your tent needs to be strong enough to stand against rain, wind and snow during the trip. Easy set up models are always a plus as well.

With the tent all taken care of, all you have to do is throw in some sleeping bags, sun screen, food, and fuel. Then it’s time to kick back, play some games, go for a hike, or strike up a conversation as you get away from the rest of the world.

If you aren’t a big fan of spending a lot of time outside during the summer, spring is also a great season to get ready for winter sports like skiing, snow shoeing, and snow boarding. After all, stores are anxious to unload old inventory and you can find great deals on things like skis, poles, helmets, goggles, bindings, and boots if you shop in the spring.

Even though you will have to store that equipment for a couple months before you get a chance to use it, spring shopping for winter sports gear is a great way to get a jump on Christmas and save some money while you’re at it.

In addition to saving on rentals, investing in family ski equipment is a great way to help your children feel comfortable on the slopes and get to the lifts faster. And, if you have more than one child, the younger ones can use older models that their siblings outgrow.

There are a lot of things that need to happen during the spring like planting, spring cleaning, and switching out winter clothes for you summer ones, but along with all the work that needs to get done, you can enjoy a little shopping as well. That way, spring will not only be busy, but enjoyable as well.
